About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Indirect Tax Manager experienced in GST, state taxes and duties (Fuel tax credits would be a bonus) to join our Group tax team based in the Sydney head office. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of indirect tax compliance, planning, and strategy. This role requires a deep understanding of indirect tax laws and regulations, as well as the ability to effectively manage relationships with internal stakeholders, external tax advisors and government authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Indirect Tax Compliance: Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of Business Activity Statements (GST and Fuel tax credits), stamp duty, land tax, and other related filings.
  • Tax advisory and structuring: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, deals, and operation teams, to provide guidance and training on indirect tax matters and ensure alignment with business objectives. This includes assisting with the due diligence, and advising on indirect tax consequences of acquisitions, transfers and disposals.
  • Process Improvement: Review, improve and document indirect tax processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy. This includes developing GST and FTC guides and methodology.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential areas of risk related to indirect taxes and develop appropriate controls and mitigation strategies.
  • Tax Audit Support: Serve as the primary point of contact during indirect tax audits, providing necessary documentation and support to resolve issues efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate/Postgraduate degree in Commerce, Taxation, or Law, with strong understanding of accounting. 
  • Ideally 7+ years of relevant experience in indirect tax compliance and planning, preferably in a large corporation or top tier legal/accounting firm.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with a proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously. You are able to work both independently and apply your strong analytical and problem-solving skills to provide practical solutions at short notice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in tax software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is highly desirable.
