THE ROLE

The primary purpose of the Yard Leading Hand is to complete and oversee the safe and efficient yard operations consistent with the Zero Harm requirements. The role is situated in one of Qube Energy’s operating facilities in the Dampier / Karratha region of Western Australia.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Determine and arrange with Operations Supervisor for weekly and daily labour and vehicle requirements
  • Organise equipment to cover all orders and requests
  • Provide a continuous communication focal point for the customers to enable prompt implementation of contingency actions in the event of an impediment to operations
  • Keep the Supervisor well informed at all times and be prepared to assume additional duties as required
  • Ensure that all equipment and procedures comply with all Company and customer standards
  • Maintain accurate records of information and work performed to facilitate accurate invoicing of customers and reporting of Key Performance Indicator’s
  • Supervise the use of materials handling equipment
  • Assist with staff training in local procedures and in the use of materials handling equipment
  • Assist to develop and maintain a professional and motivated employee team
  • Assist to develop the competence of individual employees by identifying and organising the training and work experience necessary to meet and individual’s development needs
  • Ensure that all instances of service failure or loss or damage of goods are investigated and develop and instigate remedial action to prevent recurrence
  • Keep equipment in a clean and working condition
  • Actively audit employee’s lead indicator safety practices such as Job Hazard Analysis
  • Ensure for all tasks undertaken, risks are identified, risks assessed and controls applied and those undertaking the task are trained in the requirements
  • Ensure employees, service providers or contractors assigned to a task are appropriately trained and qualified
  • Ensure team members understand HSE requirements and perform accordingly
  • Participate in monthly safety meetings
  • Chair daily toolbox meetings ensuring HSE topics are discussed
  • Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained
  • Correctly store materials to prevent damage and contamination and ensure compliance is regulatory and licence requirements
  • Ensure fatigue management plans are developed for transport operations and compliance to prescribed work/rest periods for commercial vehicle drivers
  • Cooperate with and assist internal and external auditors as required
  • Participate in incident investigations, as required

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience managing small teams in warehousing, distribution or logistics (preferred)
  • Dogman and Forklift License (essential)
  • Sound knowledge of warehousing and distribution best practice and management systems
  • Basic computer skills including MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Understanding of Quality Management and Continuous Improvement Concepts
  • Working knowledge and ability to implement quality systems and procedures
  • Proven problem-solving ability with a solutions orientation
  • Working knowledge of company policies, procedures and relevant legislation impacting on the role and the business
  • Heavy forklift (Reach Stacker & 16 Tonne) operating skills.
  • Experience in transport operations
  • Experience in crane and lifting operations
  • Experience in storage and inventory control/reporting
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of people
  • Ability to work autonomously using proactive approach to task resolution
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to work in a demanding environment
  • Ability to work well within a small team environment
  • Ability to obtain an MSIC
