Primary Purpose:

The primary purpose of the role of HSEQ Advisor is to provide HSEQ support, education and advice to operational leaders and employees to help achieve the Company goal of Zero Harm. This role also assists to control the business risks associated with HSEQ and meet the standards established by legislation.

Performance Indicators & Expectations:

  • Drive the business to successfully achieve KPl's and continually track performance on both leading and lagging indicators.
  • Maintain current KPI reporting with team and continue to work with team to improve outcomes (e.g. Safety Observations)
  • Onsite inspections and audits of operational tasks (min. 5 per month)
  • Delivery of interactive toolbox and safety topics (min. 2 per month)
  • Worksite interactions monitoring safety procedure/process.
  • Evaluate and identify methods for ongoing improvement
  • Safety audit inspection for operations to ensure compliance management, in line with operational management plan and business guidelines.
  • Continually develop and demonstrate a new level of respect and trust within the team and greater business.
  • Develop and initiate safety programs that are specific to our business operations that improve safety awareness and behaviours.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a comprehensive risk assessment of the scope of operations, including working environment, current work practices and procedures.
  • Assist with the development of a training needs analysis (including gap analysis), including the identification of training needs and the development of a site training plan. Monitor the     implementation of the training plan with respect to critical training.
  • Assist site personnel in the development of site and task specific risk assessments, operational procedures and work instruction and conduct ongoing reviews of the effectiveness and compliance to risk control measures.
  • Develop the site induction with the respect to both the Company and owner requirements when working on common user sites and with the perspective of employees potentially coming from a varying range of backgrounds.
  • Establish HSE consultation and communications processes, including the establishment of Health and Safety Management Arrangements, HSE Representatives, HSE Committees, and toolbox meetings.
  • Provide the site with leadership and assistance in the development of a safety culture and environment which is consistent across all safety-critical functions.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the site HSEQ Management Plans to meet the site performance targets and meet the Business and Corporate requirements.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor an inspection and audit programme for the sites, mentor staff in the carrying out of these activities.
  • Implement the change management standard when processes change on site and ensure that all change management objectives are meet and complied with.
  • Develop and implement return to work plans, liaise with stakeholders in the return-to-work process and ensure regulatory and legislative guidelines are adhered to.
  • Provide assistance to sites in developing and implementing the quality management system to aid with ISO9001 accreditation.

  • Follow the requirements of the SHEMS documentation including Rules, Procedures, and Instructions
  • Identify system shortcomings and opportunities for improvement

Be Prepared to Work Safely

  • Report to duty in a fit state, free from fatigue the influence of alcohol or other drugs
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment and operate plant equipment safely
  • Participate in consultation activities regarding matters affecting your health, safety, and welfare
  • Participate in relevant safety training and maintaining your safety related competencies
  • Engage in Work only when in possession of required and current Certificates of Competence

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Identification and implementation of effective HSEQ initiatives.
  • A thorough understanding of safety within a Heavy Industry, Transport and Crane environment
  • Ability to undertake large scale risk assessments.
  • Ability to develop tactical and strategic plans to address safety issues.
  • Understanding of training principles and their application in addressing HSE issues.
  • Understanding of quality management systems and processes.

KEY COMPETENCIES/SKILLS:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • A minimum of 3 years in an operational environment
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety4
  • Strong understanding of Work Health and Safety Act and its regulations that govern work health and safety in Western Australia
