Primary purpose
The primary purpose of the Mining services manager is to manage day to day operations of the Transport and Mining Haulage operation in Tasmania.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Feeding Run-of-Mine (ROM) Ore to Coarse Ore Bins
- ROM & Stockpile Management
- Oversize Rock Breaking
- Concentrate Train Load-out Facility
- Crusher / Grinding Area Spillage Clean-up
- Underground Sump Maintenance
- Ensure appropriate communication of standards, expectations and procedures to the operational team.
- Review requisite skills and manage training of employees to ensure qualified manpower is available for all operations.
- Directs and manages the performance of the operations management team on the job to ensure a safe and efficient operation.
- Participate in Safety Committee and ERC meetings in order to ensure meetings are focused and outcome driven.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with employment terms (EA’s), OH&S and Environmental legislation and company policy and take necessary corrective action.
- Resolve queries and issues raised by the workforce relating to policy and practice.
- Manage the conduct of Risk Assessments and the development of safe work methods and required documentation.
- Monitor hazard and near miss reports and conduct safety observations.
- Monitor and ensure recommendations for corrective action are closed off within specified time frames.
- Review incidents of employee policy breach, investigate and lead implementation of appropriate action.
- Review incidents of poor employee performance and lead implementation of appropriate action taking into account employee employment terms and conditions such as dispute resolution procedures and other industrial instruments.
- Manage maintenance within budget ensuring adherence to relevant legislation and Qube Ports standards.
- The efficient management of day to day operations to ensure safety and productivity targets are met.
- Assist in allocation of resources to improve operational and financial performance and monitor regularly.
- Establish and meet budget requirements and ensure business costs are controlled
- Identify and develop new business opportunities and expanded scope of work for existing business activities with an aim of profitably growing overall business in the Region for the Company
- Ensure contracts are being serviced in accordance with their terms and conditions
- Serve as liaison with all stakeholders for daily operational activities
- Consults with clients to understand their distribution networks and determines the logistics resources required to support equipment, safety, personnel and maintenance
- Responsible for the strategic and operational planning of customer logistics operations
- Assist with the recruitment process of new drivers/operators.
- Performance management and development of Drivers/Operators
- Ensure that the branch complies with all its legislative and regulatory OSH obligations
- Ensure vehicle and driver compliance of all HSE, Main roads including Qube policy and procedures by completing daily audit checks.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential
- Management experience in the Transport and Mining industries or similar
- Experience in high risk operating environments
- Understanding of operational capabilities of machinery
- Experience in regulated workplace environments
