THE ROLE
Reporting to the Operations Manager and based in Adelaide, this role is responsible for the planning, direction and control of stevedoring operations with a focus on people, productivity and meeting customer requirements in a safe and cost-effective manner. You will ideally come from a ports/stevedoring background and have extensive people/operations management experience. Your key focus will be day-to-day operations and medium-term planning to maximize the efficiency of the port. This role also includes financial and productivity management through planning and measuring performance processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Day to day running of the Adelaide business along with the Operations Manager
- Over sight of labour management including allocations for all operations
- Management of the Microster System to ensure daily requirements are met
- Prepare work/shift rosters for all operations.
- Liaise with Clients
- Ensure contracts are being serviced in accordance with their terms and conditions
- Management of the annual leave process
- Assistance with staff development in conjunction with operational requirements
- FSE hours management, ensuring target hours are met
- Management of the Microster System to ensure daily requirements are met
- Focal point of contact for all key clients and management of pre and post operational meetings
- Management of vessel planning, ensuring shift managers have the tools and information required to effectively and efficiently stevedore vessels.
- Measuring performance through set KPI’s and goal setting.
- Management of productivity data for all vessel types
- Weekly & Monthly safety and financial reporting.
- Communications – effective communication to the leadership group.
- Report daily to the Operations Manager on the previous twenty-four (24) hours performance and outcomes of plan versus actual
- Prepares a medium term (one week) and long term plan (four weeks) in advance for operations managers sign off.
- Assist with toolbox meetings (held daily)
- Assist in the functional running and scheduling of HSE, CIP, and ERC committees; attend port users, and port operations meetings.
- Support business development activities and projects
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Current driver’s licence
- Previous experience in stevedoring and other high risk port activities
- PC Literacy including competency in the full MS software suite, specifically MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to effectively utilise the Microster operating system to manage labour allocation
- Previous industrial relations experience
- Demonstrated strength in written and oral communications to multiple operating levels
- Sound technical knowledge and experience in vessel operations and planning
- Experience leading and managing people
- Knowledge of WHS&E requirements and obligations
- Sound understanding of industry awards and workplace agreements
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of people
- The ability to work shift work at short notice and the hours necessary to fulfil the requirements of the position
