Purpose Statement
The Executive Dean of Online Learning shall assist the vice president by providing instructional leadership and strategic oversight for online education programs at the college. The role encompasses supervision of staff, programs, faculty and instructors teaching within the division, and responsibility for ensuring high-quality online learning experiences. The dean collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to promote innovation, compliance, and student success in distance education and digital learning, with a particular emphasis on leveraging AI technologies to enhance operational efficiency and educational outcomes.
The college offers the possibility for alternative work arrangements such as flexplace, remote work, or flextime scheduling upon completion of training and division needs. This position may require occasional travel between campuses to support program needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completed master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, instructional technology, or a related field.
- Three years of experience in higher education leadership or online learning.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and manage large teams.
Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed master’s degree or doctorate in instructional design, media design, instructional technology, or closely related field.
- Demonstrated ability to manage change and implement new programming.
- Experience conducting needs assessment and with designing, developing, producing, and evaluating an instructional design program for educators.
- Three years of teaching experience in higher education OR three years of experience with curriculum design/multi-media design.

Essential Functions
- Oversee division operational procedures and assigned personnel.
- Supervise division personnel, including associate dean(s), assistant to the dean, directors, and administrative staff.
- Provide leadership for online education operations, strategic planning, and program development, ensuring alignment with college, state, and national requirements and accrediting bodies.
- Supervise the hiring, retention, dismissal, or probationary status of online faculty, instructors, and staff, adhering to prescribed policies and procedures.
- Lead the evaluation, research, and initiation of new online programs in conjunction with related academic divisions, ensuring a rigorous and relevant curriculum in collaboration with associate deans, department chairs, faculty, and other participants.
- Oversee the development and implementation of continual course and program assessment, promoting the use of emerging learning-centered pedagogy, including the integration of AI technologies in instructional design and support.
- Oversee online course offerings, instructional quality, and enrollment strategies to meet student needs.
- Oversee the implementation of online faculty, instructor, staff and other evaluations, ensuring ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Coordinate division processes for student concerns and oversee activities related to retention, marketing, and recruiting.
- Actively build relationships between the division and community partners, ensuring appropriate participation in community activities and advisory boards.
- Develop and manage division budgets and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders on compliance, accreditation, digital accessibility, and AI-supported analytics efforts.
- Provide regular updates to the vice president for instructional services and represent the division within the college and to external partners.
- Lead initiatives to implement technology, including AI-driven tools, and pedagogical innovations in online learning.
