The Director of Promise Scholars Programs at Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) manages coaching, onboarding, budgeting, supervision, and assessment for Promise Program students and the Promise Programs Advising and Coaching team. which provides student support for the Promise Scholars. The Director oversees training of staff, caseload management, and internal processes that support the success of the Promise Scholars Program coaching team and the students within the Program. The Director will also assist the Associate Vice President of Academic Resources and other institutional leaders in the administration of policies related to the Promise Scholars Program to include hiring.
The college offers the possibility for alternative work arrangements such as flexplace, remote work, or flextime scheduling upon completion of training and department needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completed Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Five years of experience in post-secondary/higher education success coaching, academic advising, academic counseling.
- Experience working directly with high school administrators.
- Supervisory experience.
Professional level experience is defined by the Colorado Division of Human Resources: A position that involves the exercise of discretion, analytical skill, judgment, personal accountability, and responsibility for creating, developing, integrating, applying, or sharing an organized body of knowledge. Colorado revised statute (C.R.S. 24-50-135(1) allows colleges to exempt positions from the State Personnel Classified System that are determined to be professional level work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in post-secondary student affairs and higher education; post-secondary leadership; organizational management; psychology; public administration; student personnel administration; or other closely related field.
- Five years of experience in higher education working directly with diverse student populations.
- Experience developing and implementing programs (workshops, presentations, panels, special events, etc.) as student success initiatives.
- Experience using EAB Navigate or other student records system.

Essential Functions
- Directs the implementation, development, and delivery of the academic advising and success coaching model for the Promise Scholars Program.
- Directly supervises and mentor a team of Program success advisors/coaches and their respective student engagement protocols.
- Supervises the First Nations Promise Coach as part of the Promise Programs.
- Develops a relevant and effective onboarding and training for all Program success advisors/coaches.
- Holds regular team and individual meetings with direct reports and with institutional leadership.
- Conducts annual evaluations of staff.
- Manages and reports on the Promise Program’s operational budget.
- Serves on the Academic Resources Leadership Team.
- Identifies and coordinates professional development opportunities for direct reports.
- Maintains the Promise Scholars Program data-dashboard as well as all other required and/or requested reports.
- Directs the Promise Team in planning and delivering institution wide programming, including campus activities, workshops, seminars, and orientations that support the Program.
- Prepares and presents reports to partner institutions, institutional leadership, and funders when required.
- Markets program specifics and benefits to internal and external institutional stakeholders.
- Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with institutional partners like Advising & Testing, Enrollment Services, Tutoring, and Career Services as well as with the other departments and divisions within the institution.
- Represents PPSC on the Colorado Community College System Success Coaching Functional Group.
- Ensures that the Promise Scholars Program webpages are up to date and accurate.
- Serve when requested on institutional and community committees concerned with institutional success and the specific success of the Promise Scholars Program initiative.
- Assists the Associate Vice President of Academic Resources with personnel matters, departmental and employee training and assessment, change management, and goal implementation.
- Develops and maintain a workable schedule for all full and part-time direct reports to meet the demands of the academic year, special events, staff meetings, and student needs.
- Oversees day to day workload assignments, monitoring and approving leave, directing, controlling, planning and organizing the work activities of the Program success coaching team.
- Works collaboratively with partner departments and relevant secondary institutions to achieve program recruitment and retention goals.
- Facilitates informational workshops and classroom presentations as requested and needed.
- Partners with the Academic Resources Leadership Team as a resource for Division events and activities.
- Responsible for departmental assessment and the development and implementation of an effective assessment plan leading to the improvement of services, student satisfaction, training, and communication.
