Temporary Lab Assistant: Culinary Arts

Culinary Arts is seeking a part-time lab assistant.to maintain a clean, efficient, and safe learning environment for culinary students while supporting the instructional team. The assistant supports the daily operations of the culinary arts labs. This role assists with lab preparation, inventory, safety compliance, purchasing coordination, and technical support for instructional activities.

This is a temporary part-time hourly position, not to exceed 28 hours per week.   

Lab Operations & Support 

  • Assist in preparation and breakdown of culinary and baking labs including setup and disassembly of equipment and demo stations.
  • Maintain equipment and storage organization; notify department director of maintenance needs.
  • Ensure availability of ingredients and supplies for scheduled labs in coordination with faculty and the purchasing process.
  • Monitor cleanliness, sanitation standards, and ServSafe compliance throughout labs.
  • Track inventory of food, dry goods, and equipment; recommend orders or replenishment needs.
  • Support faculty and students in labs by answering questions and reinforcing proper techniques and safety practices.

Procurement & Inventory

  • Collaborate with the department to monitor stock levels and support ordering of culinary products and lab materials.
  • Assist with receiving, inspecting, and stocking of deliveries.
  • Help maintain purchasing records and documentation in collaboration with the department’s purchasing process.

Instructional Support 

  • Provide support during class labs, assisting instructors and students in a hands-on environment.
  • Help enforce dress code and safety policies.
  • Participate in culinary events, outreach activities, or demonstrations as needed.

Administrative & Technical Duties 

  • Maintain safety data sheets (SDS), first aid materials, and documentation to support lab compliance.
  • Organize and maintain lab documentation including class requisitions, inventory logs, and cleaning duty lists.
  • Assist with preparation of instructional materials or setup for department events or demonstrations.

General Duties, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of culinary and baking and pastry arts operations.
  • Familiarity with inventory systems and safe handling procedures for kitchen equipment and food products.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced lab environment.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and vendors.
  • Commitment to cultural competence and diversity in the workplace.
  • Customer service focus with a proactive and professional attitude.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to college policies and safety standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed associate degree in Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry Arts, or closely related field.
  • One year of industry experience in a professional culinary kitchen or bakeshop.
  • Current ServSafe Food Handlers Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated culinary experience in a professional or educational lab setting.
  • Experience managing culinary lab inventory and supplies.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a culinary setting.

Must be a State of Colorado resident or able to relocate to Colorado prior to first date of employment.  All work must be performed in the State of Colorado.
