Our underground Nova operation (Ni-Cu-Co) is at a critical phase of its life cycle with approximately 18 months remaining of full production before going into care and maintenance and closure. This position will offer you a chance to be part of the motivated and high performing team that proudly brings the mine to a close. 

Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer and working closely with the broader mining team and underground contractor, your scope of responsibility will extend from the wet paste plant through to placement of fill underground.

Key accountabilities will also include:

  • Producing Backfill workplans specifying fill type, mix strengths, reticulation routes, bulkhead design and bund positioning;
  • Communicating the backfill schedule priorities with consideration given to the short and long term mine plan;
  • Providing guidance to paste plant operators and UG paste crew on technical aspects of the backfill function;
  • Managing QA/QC requirements of backfill operations;
  • Ensuring the Backfill Management Plan and associated documents are up to date and fit for purpose; and
  • Champion R&D projects related to backfill with an emphasis on technology innovation.

 

Your Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to be a collaborative team player, with a detail focus and passion for quality work. You will also have the following:

  • Significant experience in a mining engineering role, with exposure to backfilling operations, ideally with base metals;
  • Tertiary qualification in Mining or Geotechnical Engineering;
  • Sound understanding of Backfill engineering theory and applications, along with the ability to examine and probe backfill technical literature and reports from subject matter experts;
  • Focus and commitment to work safety;
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels;
  • Self-motivated and well organised to ensure the timely delivery of projects and tasks assigned to the role;
  • Proficient computer skills using mining industry software (Deswik preferred);
  • Valid ā€˜C’ class manual drivers licence; and
  • National Police Clearance obtained within the last two months.
