JOB SUMMARY
The Payroll Office is seeking applicants for the position of Administrative Program Support 2. The Administrative Program Support 2 will be responsible for managing the work-study payroll and supporting the overall production of the biweekly payroll through the processing of payroll forms and providing customer service in the Main Office.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The expected job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Independently coordinates and oversees all fiscal and administrative functions related to the timely and accurate payment of work-study student employees. This includes the calculation of gross to net pay; review of Smart HR transactions from university departments for accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures, review of employee timesheets and resolution of discrepancies; balancing the payroll and analyzing reports to ensure regulatory compliance and updating Core-CT to ensure accurate reporting.
- Assists with various main office functions including screening incoming correspondences and taking appropriate action; providing quality customer service via phone, email, and walk-ins, distribution of forms W-2 and form 1042-s; updating addresses in Core-CT and responding to verbal and written requests for information.
- Serves as a principal source of information (subject matter expert), providing advice to Student Employment, hiring departments, and technical resources on how to best manage complex situations and execute transactions in Core-CT to achieve desired outcomes.
- Represents Payroll and serves as a primary point of contact for all payment issues associated with the work-study payroll.
- Communicates frequently with Student Employment, hiring departments, the Office of the State Comptroller, Core-CT, and other state agencies to request or provide information, and to resolve discrepancies that may be complex in nature and require advanced knowledge of administrative functions.
- Assists with the review and processing of Form I9s (both on paper and in HireRight). Communicates with hiring departments and employees to obtain corrected forms.
- Assists with the review and processing of federal and state tax withholding forms and verifications of employment.
- Assists with the maintenance of records, both paper and electronic, in accordance with business needs, and state and University retention requirements.
- May assist in coordinating duties of student staff when the Main Office Coordinator is not available.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in business/finance or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two to four years of related work experience in payroll, human resources, or fiscal environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of HR, and payroll processes.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and written communication skills.
- Ability to solve problems and regularly exercise sound judgement regarding operational and administrative procedures.
- Demonstrated customer service skills.
- Ability to manage time and deadlines, and juggle multiple competing priorities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in higher education.
- Experience with PeopleSoft HRMS and/or Core-CT.

This is a full-time, permanent position located at the Storrs campus.
