INTRODUCTION 

The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program of the Department of Social and Critical Inquiry at the University of Connecticut invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor for the Spring 2025 semester. The successful candidate will be able to teach a range of undergraduate courses, including those focused on women, gender, and film; feminism and science fiction; and critical approaches to women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. The ability to teach online and in-person modalities is required. Candidates with experience teaching or specializing in Latina feminism, narrative, and writing are especially encouraged to apply. This position may also involve the oversight of graduate student teaching assistants.  

This is a one-semester, 5-month, non-tenure track teaching appointment and may include service to the unit and/or campus through participation in committee work. 

Housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program is a multidisciplinary research and teaching program committed to transforming scholarship in existing academic disciplines by incorporating the study, contributions, and feminist analysis of gender and sexuality. To that end, the program is invested in new approaches to interdisciplinary feminist teaching and engaged in intersectional work that advances the understanding of the construction, reproduction, and resistance to inequality. Established in 1974, the program is among the most established in New England, and its faculty are nationally known and internationally recognized.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  

  1. Ph.D. in an area relevant to the field of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. 
  2. Experience teaching undergraduate courses. 
  3. Experience teaching in asynchronous online modalities. 
  4. A commitment to working with a diverse student body. 
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  

  1. Evidence of commitment to broadening student participation and integrating social justice concerns into instruction. 
  2. Critical pedagogical techniques that meet the needs of diverse learning styles. 
  3. Experience teaching large, core curriculum undergraduate-level courses. 
  4. Experience supervising graduate student teaching assistants.   

APPOINTMENT TERMS 

This is a full-time from 1/1/25-8/22/25 as a non-tenure track position with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2025. The successful candidate's primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus.
