JOB SUMMARY

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) in Storrs, CT is competitively recruiting talented grants and contracts/sponsored project professionals to join our growing research administration team. Sponsored Program Services (SPS) is responsible for administering a portfolio of $375M annually awarded funding across all UConn campuses and UConn Health. We are a top-ranked public research university and land grant institution, rurally situated in the “Quiet Corner” of Northeast Connecticut.

We invite applications for the open position of Cash Management Assistant. Under the supervision of the Manager of Financial Services, the Cash Management Assistant is responsible for performing the accounting and bookkeeping functions related to the billings and collections of sponsored research accounts.

This position will be hired at either the Financial Assistant 1 classification or the Financial Assistant 2 classification dependent upon the incumbent’s experience, skills, abilities, and training as determined by the University. The Financial Assistant 1 serves as an entry-level or early career professional who will work under more direct supervision and will regularly provide information on finished materials and completed tasks to others. The Financial Assistant 2 performs a similar scope of duties with greater independence, working under general supervision and handling most work situations within established practices and procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains monthly billing cycle and prepares accounts receivable invoices to sponsors of grants and awards through a variety of online invoicing systems.
  • Receipts monies in a variety of forms, including wire transfers and state transfer invoices.
  • Prepares and accounts system entry of journal vouchers to record billings and cash receipts.
  • Prepares quarterly and ad hoc financial reports.
  • Follows up on outstanding invoices.
  • Troubleshoots and serves as a liaison to sponsors, researchers, and University staff regarding billing requests and inquiries.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Financial Assistant 2: under the general supervision of the manager, monitors cash management procedures and draft modifications as needed. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Financial Assistant 1: Associate’s degree in a related field and two to three years of relevant experience.
  2. Financial Assistant 2: Bachelor's degree in a related field and two to three years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the degree and years requirement.
  3. Financial Assistant 2: Working knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.
  4. Financial Assistant 2: Experience in Accounts Receivable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience with online, electronic financial processing.
  2. Customer-service orientation.
  3. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
  4. Effective time management skills, including the ability to multitask and manage a large workload in a fast-paced environment under the pressure of various deadlines.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

The target salary range for this position will be commensurate with experience, currently $45,842 to $59,595 Financial Assistant 1 and $51,344 to $66,747 for Financial Assistant 2. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
