JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Crash Coding Supervisor at CTSRC, the successful candidate(s) will assist in motor vehicle crash report review, validation, quality assurance, and integration efforts, with the ultimate goal of aiding the advancement of the State’s data-driven safety analysis capabilities. This work requires great attention to detail and performing data quality and assurance checks. This is an entry-level position and will not require any advanced data manipulation or analysis. Candidates must be reliable, dependable, and responsible. Employees will be required to keep up with scheduled training, communications, and documentation provided by your supervisor via Microsoft Teams and/or email, and to complete necessary data quality corrections. Successful candidates will be trained on how to perform all job functions, as this is an entry-level position at CTSRC.

The Connecticut Transportation Safety Research Center (CTSRC) is part of the Connecticut Transportation Institute (CTI), established at the University of Connecticut in 1974, and operates within the College of Engineering. CTI’s mission is to conduct integrated multidisciplinary research, education, and related services that promote safety and efficiency in multi-modal passenger and freight transportation systems and, in turn, enhance livable communities, sustainable economies, and the environment. CTI brings together a critical mass of transportation faculty and research talent at the University of Connecticut, the top public research institution in New England.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performing data entry and quality control checks of motor vehicle crash data received from police departments.
  • Use custom software and mapping tools to assist in data collection.
  • Provide feedback on common errors and inaccuracies within the crash data received.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. The position requires a B.A. or B.S. with no post-degree experience or equivalent specialized training and experience in a data entry or office setting.
  2. Proficient skill with basic computer applications (i.e., email, Microsoft products, Google Maps, web browser).
  3. Demonstrated past experience of working with maps, GPS data, transportation networks, and spatial information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Familiarity with ESRI GIS tools, or open source (QGIS) mapping/GIS tools.
  2. Experience with law enforcement, engineering, data analytics, or a position in an academic setting.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a part-time, 12-month position that may be renewed annually based on funding availability and performance. The schedule will be flexible with a commitment to a minimum of 20 hours/week, with the ability to work up to 30 hours per week. This position pays $25-$28 per hour, depending on experience. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut AAUP—these, as well as the UConn tuition waiver for dependents and spouses.
