JOB SUMMARY

Working under the general guidance of the Institutional Research Director and Data Warehouse Lead, the Data Warehouse Developer plays a critical role in ongoing efforts to build data integration and warehousing solutions to support both business intelligence and analytical applications for decision-making at the University. This position has a critical role in coordinating and confidentially managing the administrative and technical support for the online Student Evaluation of Teaching system, including providing support to instructors, departments, and senior leadership. The person in this position will work in a collaborative, dynamic team environment alongside financial and research analysts. A successful candidate will provide support to IR and various other departments with outstanding organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with BPIR business experts to establish a core group of data elements necessary for decision support using SAS Enterprise Guide.
  • Assist with creating warehouse designs/structures that enable easy, natural end-user access with selected business intelligence platform(s).
  • Design, automate, schedule and load jobs necessary to extract core data from multiple data sources and environments into a local data warehouse.
  • Provide recommendations in the selection of DBMS, ETL and associated tools appropriate for the current and future needs of the decision support system.
  • Ensure efficient processing on an ongoing basis, including data consistency of data attributes, naming conventions and element value types.
  • Report data to various internal and external audiences, such as ad hoc reporting, mandated reporting, and reporting for leadership decision-making.
  • Possess knowledge regarding data content/definitions and the use of business intelligence tools such as Microsoft Power BI.
  • Manage the administrative and technical support for the online Student Evaluation of Teaching system including providing support to instructors, departments, and senior leadership.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or Related Fields with a Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of experience OR Associates Degree and 4 years of experience OR 6 Years of related experience.
  2. Strong SQL programming skills and related database experience.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills with various technical and non-technical audiences, including information technology groups.
  4. Knowledge and understanding of DBMS technology and ETL processes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline; minimum of six years of prior data programming experience.
  2. Hands-on development experience in ETL (Extract, Transform & Load), using tools such as SAS Enterprise Guide, Informatica or DataStage.
  3. Experience programming in SAS or SPSS.
  4. General knowledge of business intelligence and reporting tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, or WebFOCUS.
  5. Ability to extract and merge data from multiple platforms; experience with creating a Data Warehouse, including the steps involved in the “lifecycle” of its development.
  6. Knowledge of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and Institutional Research data.
