JOB SUMMARY

The centralized Information Technology Services (ITS) Department at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT is seeking a qualified Oracle Database Administrator to join our team. This position operates under a hybrid work model and requires onsite presence in Storrs three days per week. The successful candidate will be responsible for the monitoring, troubleshooting, patching, performance tuning, and overall support of the University’s Oracle database environments. Under the direction of the team leader, and in collaboration with other team members, this position works closely with IT teams and stakeholders across the University to ensure reliable and effective database services that support the institution’s academic and administrative missions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Database Administrator 1

  • Identifies and resolves system and database-related errors; consults with team members and application owners to address platform issues and system performance concerns.
  • Assists technical staff with the installation, configuration, upgrade, and maintenance of database solutions and related tools.
  • Researches and documents procedures, techniques, and programs to analyze or improve the performance and reliability of software systems.
  • Performs software installations, patches, and upgrades in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Coordinates with Oracle Support to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Develops scripts and programs to support data administration and routine operational tasks.
  • Collaborates with team members and management to implement and support enterprise database solutions.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Database Administrator 2

  • Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system and database-related errors; consults with application owners and functional users to address platform issues and system performance concerns.
  • Assists technical staff with the installation, configuration, upgrade, and maintenance of database solutions and associated tools.
  • Researches, develops, and documents procedures, techniques, and programs to analyze and improve the performance and reliability of database and software systems.
  • Documents and performs software installations, patches, and upgrades in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Coordinates with Oracle Support to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Develops scripts and programs to support data administration and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborates with team members and management to enhance, implement, and support enterprise database solutions.
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Database Administrator 1

  1. Six years of related professional experience; or an associate’s degree and four years of related experience; or a bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience managing Oracle database environments.
  3. Demonstrated experience executing database backup and recovery operations using Oracle RMAN.

Database Administrator 2

  1. Eight years of related professional experience; or an associate’s degree and six years of related experience; or a bachelor’s degree and four years of related experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience managing Oracle databases in complex or large-scale environments.
  3. Demonstrated experience with Oracle RAC, RMAN, and Data Guard technologies.
  4. Demonstrated experience supporting database security, recovery, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
  5. Demonstrated experience with Oracle’s implementation of Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).
  6. Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation, and support of database backup, recovery, and failover tools and technologies.
  7. Demonstrated experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) including installation, configuration, optimization, and use of industry best practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Database Administrator 1

  1. Demonstrated experience supporting database security, recovery, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
  2. Demonstrated experience administering Linux operating systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Enterprise Linux.
  3. Demonstrated experience with Oracle RAC, Exadata, Data Guard.
  4. Demonstrated experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) including installation, configuration, optimization, and use of industry best practices.
  5. Working knowledge of Oracle Exadata and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  6. Working knowledge of additional database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB.
  7. Working knowledge of data analytics technologies and systems.
  8. Working knowledge of Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) principles and best practices.
  9. Demonstrated experience with Oracle’s implementation of Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).

Database Administrator 2

  1. Demonstrated experience administering Linux operating systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Enterprise Linux.
  2. Demonstrated experience with Oracle Exadata and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
  3. Working knowledge of additional database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB.
  4. Working knowledge of data analytics technologies and systems.
  5. Working knowledge of Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) principles and best practices.
