The Center for Neutrino Physics at Virginia Tech (http://cnp.phys.vt.edu) invites applications for a post-doctoral research associate focusing on the CUORE neutrinoless double-beta decay experiment and development of the technical design for CUPID.
The researcher will support operation of the CUORE experiment at Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) and will contribute to data analysis and simulations as part of the CUORE science program. In addition, the researcher will have the opportunity to contribute to the technical design for CUPID through simulations and operation of prototype detectors. The position will be based in Blacksburg, Virginia, but travel to LNGS and other national/international facilities may be required. The group operates an R&D dilution refrigerator to support detector development for CUPID. The researcher will play a leading role in developing and executing measurements in this cryostat both at the Blacksburg campus and at the Kimballton Underground Lab near Virginia Tech. The researcher will actively engage in mentorship of graduate and undergraduate research students in the group.
Applicants should hold or soon complete a PhD in experimental nuclear/particle physics or a closely related field.
Experience in any of the following areas is an advantage: cryogenic particle detectors, cryogenics in the milli-kelvin regime/operation of dilution refrigerators, low-background techniques, statistical data analysis, C++, and GEANT4.
The successful Candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
