Job Description

The Department of Health Systems and Implementation Science at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine seeks exceptional candidates for an Associate or Full Professor on the Teaching and Research track. This is a tenure-eligible, independent investigator faculty position dedicated to Virginia Tech’s research and teaching missions. Rank is commensurate with experience and level of accomplishment.

Successful candidates will be expected to lead an extramurally funded research program focused on improving population health by training leaders in health systems science or related field, strengthening health systems, and translating evidence into policy and practice. We are committed to excellence and innovation in research and education, underpinned by a focus on equity, societal impact, and building partnerships in the communities we serve.

Areas of research interest could include human-centered design or human factors, health equity, health services research, and research on barriers and/or facilitators to disseminate and implement evidence-based practices. Particularly desired fields of application include obesity, diabetes, cancer care, and addiction.

Responsibilities include teaching courses in health systems science, implementation science, or relevant field of expertise to medical and graduate students. Other responsibilities include advising students (Ph.D., Masters, Undergraduate), supervising dissertations or thesis work, maintaining a program of scholarship and scholarly activities, and engaging in professional service.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should have, (1) a doctorate in health sciences or a closely related field from an AACSB accredited or similar school, (2) a strong research track-record that includes recent publications in elite health science journals and a history of gaining extramural funding, and (3) instructional capabilities at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include (1) experience as a mentor to junior faculty and doctoral students, (2) overlap of research interests with those of our current faculty in the implementation science areas (3) evidence of effective teaching in medical and graduate courses.
