In Virginia Tech’s Division of Student Affairs, that’s exactly what we do every day—guiding, nurturing, and supporting students as they learn and grow into the leaders and world-changers of today and tomorrow.

We’re currently searching for a Coordinator for Student Organizations to join Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission. This position will be responsible for the development and implementation of purposeful and learning-centered programs and services that guide the various types of student organizations at Virginia Tech. Here’s what you need to know about the role:

1) You’ll be joining the Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) team: a department centered on uplifting the student experience by cultivating affirming environments, promoting holistic well-being, and providing exceptional services, programs, and facilities.

2) You’ll report to the Assistant Director of Student Organizations Leadership & Development, a Regular twelve-month, 100% Administrative Professional (AP) faculty appointment. 

3) You’ll be primarily responsible for management and oversight of our student organization resource center, The Source, and our student Engagement Ambassadors. Working through the resource center and with our ambassadors, you will assist organizations with resource building, organization development, and leadership development.

4) You’ll supervise the Graduate Assistant for Student Organizations and the Engagement Ambassadors focusing on developing personal and organizational skills for peer-to-peer education and mentorship.

5) You’ll have the chance to grow and take advantage of a developmental plan with opportunities to advance within the Department and the Division.

6) You’ll be offered a base compensation package between $44,000-47,000 along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

Required Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience advising student organizations, creating programs, and working with university policy and/or leadership development programs.
• Experience in student affairs or higher education setting.
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, and inclusion.
• Demonstrated initiative in creating and implementing projects, presentations, and engagement opportunities.
• Above-average communications skills are essential, as well as a desire to work in a teamwork-focused environment, which includes colleagues, and students.
• Evening and weekend work required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with student organizations and/or leadership development.
• Proficiency with computer programs including involvement platforms, specifically, the Campus Labs platforms.
• Experience within and/or leading a student organization, or similar type of group.

Work schedule - M-F 8:00 AM-5:00 PM with evenings and weekends as needed
