Job Description

Reporting to the Human Resources Director for the Office of Research and Innovation (ORI), the Human Resources Coordinator serves as part of a team to provide human resources programs, services and support the research enterprise within the ORI senior management area and university-wide.

The HR Coordinator will coordinate and execute HR activities in the functional areas of recruitment and selection, performance management, onboarding and offboarding, leave and wage payroll, audit and compliance, as well as in other related HR areas. This position will contribute to the HR team by providing general office duties, transactional support, records management, calendar management, drafting correspondences and information for HR website. In addition, the HR Coordinator will be expected to provide guidance and support to reporting units to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, and university policies and procedures. Role requires handling sensitive/confidential information with discretion, as well as demonstrating a strong communication acumen. The HR Coordinator will also work as part of administrative and HR teams, including the central university HR office, to address emerging issues in HR practices, and to develop and implement creative solutions that support the delivery of innovative HR programs.

This position is located in Blacksburg, VA and is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with time in the office and remote each week.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent level education and experience, in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Knowledge with at least one of the following HR programs: recruitment and selection, job analysis, classification and compensation, and employee relations.
- Experience providing administrative support in calendar support, developing communications, and records management.
- Experience preparing and analyzing HR related materials such as position descriptions, recruitment advertising, or performance plans.
- Knowledge of HR systems for position classification, compensation, and performance management with the demonstrated ability to apply to a variety of occupational classes.
- Knowledge of standard office software operations with the ability to use computer technologies to generate reports, analyze data, and effectively use enterprise-wide data technology.
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.

Preferred Qualifications

- Current PHR or SPHR certification.

Additional Information

This position is located in Blacksburg, VA and is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with time in the office and remote each week.
