Job Description

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is seeking a HR Transactions Assistant. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide support for the CALS Human Resources office and a broad range of constituencies in a diverse community within the college. This position reports to the CALS Human Resources Manager and will be the primary point of contact for Human Resources functions for the Family Nutrition Program in Virginia Cooperative Extension.

Responsibilities include providing operational support for the college Human Resource department by collaborating with department hiring managers and employees on the full recruitment cycle/process; assisting employees with questions related to human resources management policies and practices, processing personnel actions, entering and updating Banner transactions, updating Leave Management system when needed, review and coordinate accurate and timely completion of TimeClock Plus for wage payroll, serving as backup for auditing 1,500 wage reports, maintaining records, scheduling meetings and filing, as well as assisting with PageUp reporting and special projects.

Suitable candidates for this role must demonstrate the ability to handle sensitive/confidential information with discretion, a resourceful and collaborative nature, as well as a solutions-focused attitude.

Required Qualifications

Experience providing Human Resources support in a role with at least 50% Human Resources responsibilities.
Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communications.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience working with confidential information.
Experience working effectively with team members and/or independently on tasks.
Experience assisting with- or managing projects through completion.
Experience using online application tracking systems and/or Human Resource Information System (HRIS)
Demonstrated knowledge of hiring best practices.
Proficiency with respectful, professional interactions in a diverse, multi-cultural environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate or bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field.
Experience with Banner, TimeClock Plus and PageUp.
Significant experience processing human resources transactions
Experience interpreting human resource and/or payroll policies within a university setting.
Working knowledge of Virginia Tech or state Human Resources policies and procedures.

$35,438 - $47,000; commensurate with experience.
