Job Description

Virginia Tech’s Moss Arts Center is the university’s professional presenting program that reports to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost. The center presents artists from around the globe and from close to home – from renowned masters to new emerging voices – with a special focus on experiences that expand cultural awareness and deepen understanding for the more than 35,000 participants we engage each year. Since opening in 2013, the center has brought innovative and diverse programming to the university. Each year the center provides 25-30 national and international artists in performance, 6-8 distinct gallery exhibitions, 100+ student engagement opportunities, and other impactful outreach across campus and throughout the region, including programs for youth. A member of the center's leadership team, the Director of Administration oversees departmental fiscal, human resources, information technology, and facilities management. Responsibilities include budget preparation, monitoring, financial projections and reporting; managing revenues from multiple sources; ensuring center-wide compliance with university purchasing and asset management procedures; guiding employee hiring, performance management, compensation, and payroll activity; overseeing building maintenance and repair management, improvement projects, and long-term maintenance planning; supporting IT resource management that meets security standards and supports business needs; and ensuring overall safe and compliant departmental operations.

The Director of Administration supports the leadership of the Associate Provost for the Arts and Executive Director by providing responsible, ethical, and clear decision-making, actions, and supportive collaboration with the other unit directors within the center. The Director of Administration is expected to be a highly-organized problem solver, with the ability to thoroughly analyze challenges and opportunities and present clear and concise proposed courses of action that effectively consider financial resources, employees, patrons, and the reputation of the center.

Required Qualifications

- Advanced degree in business administration or other appropriate field of study, or a Bachelor’s degree combined with significant related experience.
- Progressively responsible fiscal management, including hands-on experience with accepted business and/or accounting practices.
- Experience supervising a department, business unit, or business, including operations control and following established policies and procedures.
- Experience interpreting financial data and preparing projections and reports.
- Significant supervisory experience.
- Human resource operations management experience and knowledge of applicable laws and proper practices.

Preferred Qualifications

- Hands-on experience overseeing system administration and IT security services.
- Facility management experience.
- Fiscal and HR management experience within higher education with an understanding of the academic mission of a comprehensive, land-grant, research institution.
- Experience in a presenting arts organization.

$110,000 - $135,000, commensurate with experience

Additional Information

Position is located in Blacksburg, VA and is eligible for up to one day per week remote work arrangement.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
