Job Description

Supports and provides active leadership in coordination of the multiple, externally funded research activities of Dr. Warren Bickel (VTC Endowed Professor of Behavioral Health Research and Director of two FBRI research centers). Serves as a Research Center Coordinator for select studies involving recruitment and retention of participants with addiction and other health problems, such as obesity and type 2 diabetes and also provides senior administrative support to Dr. Bickel. This position manages and prioritizes Dr. Bickel’s demanding and fast-paced schedule, including research activities and multisite coordination for two centers; remains in constant communication with the research faculty, staff, students, and other internal and external contacts; manages a complex, extensive travel schedule and logistics; schedules individual and group meetings; coordinates materials; cultivates letters, writings, and presentations, submits manuscripts; monitors deadlines and provides appropriate prompts; and responds to internal and external inquiries based on knowledge of FBRI programs and VT policies and procedures; screens and manages correspondence, inquiries, and reports, routing to relevant staff members in an accurate and timely manner; interacts with a wide range of university, VTC School of Medicine, Carilion Clinic, hospital and Roanoke community executives and officials, FBRI research team members, candidates for staff and faculty recruitment, and research participants.

Required Qualifications

Significant experience providing administrative support to a senior Principal Investigator in a demanding, fast-paced environment; advanced knowledge and demonstrated working ability with computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. or similar; experience managing complex travel with an ability to coordinate international travel; proven success organizing and managing a large, complex workload: demonstrated communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills; experience with grant proposals; significant experience providing advanced research and administrative support.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in relevant field or extensive experience. Certified Professional Secretary or Certified Administrative Professional. Teaching/presenting experience.
