Job Description

Provides administrative support to the Assistant Department Head and the Graduate Program Director along with being the Department Receptionist. This position processes all forms and procedures for the graduate program, assists with the management of departmental website and all social media including Facebook, Linkedin, etc. Helps with departmental computers and software and performs other duties as assigned by Lead Admin Manager.

Required Qualifications

Experience providing programmatic support in an academic or professional environment; proficiency with standard computer software such as Microsoft Office; proficiency with standard computer functions such as word-processing, spreadsheets, email, calendaring and internet navigation; ability to assist with management of departmental information technology, hardware, and software; ability to set priorities and meet deadlines; ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, students, and University guests with an understanding of protocol and confidentiality; strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills a must; editing and proofreading skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with the Graduate School, graduate students and faculty in an academic setting; Experience with Banner and other VT software systems. Computer software and website management experience; familiarity with Social Media, including LinkedIn, Facebook, and VT Blogging Platforms. Associate or Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of training and/or experience.
