Job Description

Responsibilities include supervision of all daily operation procedures of the VA TECH dairy herd. Areas under daily management include making decisions to modify or adjust herd nutrition, forage needs, and inventories, herd health, breeding programs, replacement heifer management, and milk quality control.

Required Qualifications

Training and experience with a dairy operation; Knowledge of general dairy husbandry and milking procedures; Experience operating farm equipment and experience with milking, proper milking protocol, and knowledge of milk storage equipment; Experience with or ability to perform heavy manual labor and handle mature dairy cows in a professional manner; Strong communication skills and teamwork ability.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in an applicable discipline, or the combination of education and experience; Knowledge of dairy herd management software programs, i.e. PCDART/AFI etc.; A.I. certified; Demonstrated supervisory experience
