Job Description

The Mining and Minerals Engineering Department is seeking a dedicated Facility Manager to oversee the operations, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our off campus research facility. This role is crucial in supporting the department's research activities by ensuring optimal functionality of equipment, maintaining safety standards, and providing efficient program support.

Key Responsibilities:
* Facility Operations: Manage day-to-day operations of the research facility, including scheduling, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment used for mining engineering and mineral processing experiments. Work closely with the department business manager to ensure operations are in line with research directions and needs.
* Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and university policies. Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and implement necessary safety protocols in coordination with the Laboratory Safety and Compliance Manager.
* Equipment Maintenance: Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules for specialized research equipment. Troubleshoot equipment issues and arrange for repairs as needed to minimize downtime. Responsible for scheduled and daily maintenance of the department truck to include driving it to VT Fleet Services for gas on a weekly basis.
* Inventory and Supplies Management: Maintain inventory of materials, supplies, and spare parts necessary for research activities. Coordinate procurement and delivery and ensure adequate stock levels. Be the responsible party for all VT tagged inventory on site and assist in fixed asset audits.
* Research Support: Collaborate with faculty and researchers to support ongoing projects. Provide technical assistance, training, and logistical support as required. Occasionally drive to project sites to retrieve samples or assist in other on-site research activities.

Required Qualifications

Proven experience in facility management, preferably in an academic or research setting.
Strong understanding of university and federal safety regulations and procedures related to laboratory and research facility operations.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to operate heavy equipment including active forklift certification.
Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of mining engineering equipment and processes is highly desirable.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Proficiency in MS Office suite.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
