Job Description

The Public Safety Division at Virginia Tech is comprised of the Police Department, Environmental Health & Safety, and the Office of Emergency Management and has a critical role in supporting the well-being of our community. We are essential in planning for and responding to emergency events, and in creating a culture of preparedness where employees and students are safe in their work and living environments.

The Clery Act Compliance Coordinator provides University-wide Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) compliance oversight and direction. Reporting directly to the Police Captain in the Administrative Division of the Virginia Tech Police Department, the incumbent works collaboratively with various offices of the University to ensure the institution's compliance with the Clery Act. The Compliance Coordinator maintains a comprehensive knowledge of the Clery Act, the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA), Higher Education Act (HEA), and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines.

The incumbent also performs other duties as requested; takes initiative to support a healthy work environment; strives to fulfill the terms in the Standards of Business Conduct; exemplifies the Virginia Tech Principles of Community; and supports the university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).

Required Qualifications

Experience
• Demonstrated experience researching, gathering facts, comprehending legal documents, preparing reports, and interpreting policies and procedures.
• Experience working with confidential and sensitive matters.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Excellent computer skills including demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
• The ability to work collaboratively with a variety of university personnel and personnel from outside agencies.
• The ability to process large volumes of work while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
• The ability to interpret and apply complex policies and regulations, using strong communication and analytical skills.
• The ability to quickly adjust to shifting priorities.
• Strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Business Administration, Political Science, Governmental Studies, Criminal Justice, Communications, or related field.
• Formal training on Clery Act requirements for universities.
• Familiarity with the Clery Act, HEOA, HEA, and FERPA.
• Familiar with federal Title IX regulations as they pertain to the Clery Act.
• Working knowledge of the Clery Act, Clery Act reporting requirements, and Clery Act training requirements.
• Experience developing, implementing, and presenting training programs.
• Familiarity with law enforcement, security, emergency services, emergency planning/management.
• Familiarity utilizing law enforcement data bases.
• Previous experience working in higher education.
