We’re currently searching for a Crisis Counselor to join The Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center (CCC)team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission. The multidisciplinary staff of counselors, social workers, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, and psychologists work to deliver services that maintain the highest standards of professional and ethical care.We are looking for active and engaged colleagues who wish to contribute their energies to our team of hardworking and competent professionals. The center is accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS) and has a doctoral internship program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ROLE:
1) You’ll be joining the Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center: a department committed to a spirit of excellence in providing timely and relevant university mental health services.
2) You’ll report to the Coordinator of Emergency Services. This position is a Regular, Calendar Year,100% Administrative Professional appointment.
3) There is no "on-call" component to this position. Hours will be 8:30am-5:30pm Monday-Friday.
4) You’ll be primarily responsible for providing individual services to students including initial assessment, diagnosis, and determination of treatment needs. In addition, you will conduct crisis interventions as needed; follow-up and track referrals for students with identified high-risk needs; maintain full and accurate case notes for clients; attend court hearings for involuntarily hospitalized students; and conduct mandatory assessments. Occasional travel may be necessary to attend seminars, continuing education, and professional development opportunities.
5) You’ll be offered a salary range from $68,000 - $85,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

Required Qualifications
• Master’s or doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology and be a licensed professional counselor or licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Experience in providing focused therapeutic interventions within a multidisciplinary team.
• Training and experience in delivering culturally competent interventions.
• Experience with managing crisis situations, completing risk assessments, and disposition planning to address safety risks.
• Well-developed counseling and clinical supervision skills.
• A self-motivated, self-directed commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice.
• The energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of the role while maintaining positive and healthy relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues with acceptance, respect, and trust.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience and interest in working with college-student/young adult population.
• Experience or interest in working with students from under-represented populations.
• Strong commitment to social justice and issues of diversity.
• Previous training and/or experience in a college mental health setting.
• Interest and/or experience collaborating with other departments or offices on multidisciplinary teams.
