Job Description

The Project Coordinator for Community Engagement Initiatives will work closely with leadership of the Center for Communicating Science at Virginia Tech to organize, support, and integrate the unit’s extensive activities that are focused on community engagement. This position will serve as a liaison between the CCS and its organizational collaborators (eg. the COMPASS Center, and a wide variety of on- and off-campus communities) to support the planning, promotion, smooth delivery, maintenance, and assessment of high-quality activities that may include:
-structured community dialogues
-outreach events (such as Science on Tap)
-practical training activities for graduate students, post-docs, faculty and industry partners (such as focused Learning to Communicate Science skill-building series, Flip the Fair, and the Pandemic-Science-in-a-Nutshell Games)
-community gatherings and meetings (such as biannual advisory and steering committee meetings)
-the CCS online presence (such as graduate student research stories and the CCS website and quarterly newsletter)

The activities of the successful candidate will be supervised by the Director and the Associate Director of the Center for Communicating Science at Virginia Tech. All parties will work collaboratively with the leadership of COMPASS on particular COMPASS-focused initiatives.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in community engagement, event, and/or project
management
- Organized, thorough, and efficient
- Project management or coordination experience
- Demonstrated strong writing and editing skills
- Responsible, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Able to prioritize multiple projects
- Strong work ethic
- Professional and personal integrity
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional nights and weekends.

Starting at $52,000 - dependent on qualifications
