The primary duties of this Parking Assistant position are to maintain the cleanliness of the parking garages on campus. This involves travel to the various garages on campus in a state vehicle to maintain a cleanliness standard to include removing trash, emptying trash cans, washing lids, keeping the elevators and stairwells clean and vacuumed, collecting leaves, and washing windows. The assistant will also support painting, striping, and numbering parking spaces when needed. As needed, the Assistant may be asked to perform standard parking enforcement duties such as supporting special events, providing customer service to campus visitors, and enforcing parking regulations.
In addition, the incumbent will perform other duties as requested by supervisor, take initiative to support the best interests of the department and a healthy work environment, and perform work aligned with the terms in the Standards of Business Conduct, Virginia Tech’s Principles of Community, and the university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).
• Strong attention to detail.
• Customer service experience with a proven ability to work with diverse customers.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to deal with conflict situations calmly and professionally.
• Must possess a current valid driver's license with no restrictions.
• Ability to move and handle up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
• Familiarity with the Virginia Tech campus.
• Experience using a two-way radio.
The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a criminal conviction and driving records check.
