The Fire and Life Safety Technician will be reporting to the Assistant Director of Health, Safety, and Environmental Quality. In this role, the primary responsibility will be to ensure that Student Affairs residence halls, dining centers, and student centers comply with local, state, and federal fire codes.
Job duties will include conducting inspections of fire extinguishers, exit signs, and emergency lights, performing building walkthroughs and inspections to identify fire code violations and safety concerns. The position may also make small repairs to life safety elements. The role will involve communicating, scheduling, and escorting subcontractors such as fire alarm and sprinkler contractors, handling invoicing and quotes, submitting work orders, and performing minor repairs to sprinkler and fire systems. The Fire and Life Safety Technician will also work closely with the State Fire Marshal(s) and local fire departments to ensure compliance and resolve any issues that may arise.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of students, employees, and visitors within Student Affairs facilities, and requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively.
• Associate's Degree program in electronics, fire alarm systems, or directly related field, or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
• Experience and knowledge of fire codes and NFPA regulations.
• Experience working with commercial fire alarm systems such as Simplex/Johnson Controls.
• Experience working with fire sprinkler systems and hoods.
• Experience comprehending and analyzing complex interrelationships and electrical systems.
• Experience verifying readings and measurements using hand tools and other measurement verification tools. Experience working from drawings, schematics, blueprints and job layouts.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs for analyzing and reporting.
• Virginia Master's HVAC, Electrical License, or Building Automation Systems certification.
• Experience with installation, programming, start-up, commissioning, integration, modifying, troubleshooting and repair of one or more direct digital controls (DDC) systems.
• Experience configuring and integrating various manufacturer graphical user interfaces, network level controllers and field level controllers using BACnet, LonWorks, Modbus or proprietary protocols.
• Experience with Siemens Apogee Insight, Trane Ensemble, Trane Tracer Summit, or Siemens Desigo CC system.
Salary $52,000 - $55,000/year and commensurate with experience
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check as well as a driving check with a safe driving record.
