We are seeking a dedicated General Maintenance Specialist to join our Construction Trades team in Student Affairs overseeing building envelope, structural, and architectural finish repair in Housing, Dining and Student Engagement and Campus Life areas. Reporting to the Construction Trades Manager, you will play a crucial role in maintaining our facility’s comfort and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
o Installation, Troubleshooting and Repair: Of various finishes and building systems within Student Affairs facilities as listed in the system components below.
o System Components: Drywall, paint, decorative panels, ceramic/porcelain tile, LVT, carpet squares, rubber baseboard, acoustical ceiling tiles and grid, casework and trim, granite, solid surface and laminate countertops, metal stud framing and other components.
o Preventative Maintenance: Assisting with roofing preventative maintenance.
o Other General Maintenance: May assist with tasks related to electrical, mechanical, plumbing or roofing as needed.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement and education within the department.
o Professional Experience: Experience with drywall installation, finishing and painting. Experience repairing and installing various types of flooring and tile. Experience with acoustical ceiling installation and repairs.
o Blueprints and Schematics: Ability to accurately interpret and follow blueprints, schematic drawings, and specifications.
o Effective Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interactions with customers, co-workers, and leadership.
o Efficient Work Ethic: Capability to prioritize workload and work efficiently with minimal supervision.
o Flexibility and Reliability: Ability to work overtime as required, including responding to after-hours service calls and during facilities emergencies. Commitment to being present during authorized closings due to inclement weather or other reasons, as essential personnel.
o Computer Skills: Working knowledge of computers and proficiency in programs such as Word and Excel.
o Professional Experience: Current contractor’s license.
o Software Proficiency: Successful experience with work order system software, AiM by AssetWORKS, or similar.
Salary $44,000 - $49,000/year and commensurate with experience
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check as well as a driving check with a safe driving record. A free meal at one of our award winning Dining centers with each eight hour shift worked.
