The Virginia Tech Greater Washington D.C. Area Human Resources Coordinator position will provide on-site support for Human Resources.
The HR Coordinator will coordinate and execute HR activities in the functional areas of recruitment and selection, performance management, onboarding and offboarding, leave, audit and compliance, as well as in other related HR areas. This position will contribute to the HR team by providing general office duties, transactional support, records management, calendar management, drafting correspondences and information for communications. In addition, the HR Coordinator will be expected to provide guidance and support to reporting units to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, and university policies and procedures. Role requires handling sensitive/confidential information with discretion, as well as demonstrating a strong communication acumen. The HR Coordinator will also work with other administrative and HR teams, including the Department of HR, to address emerging issues in HR practices, and to develop and implement creative solutions that support the delivery of innovative HR programs.
This position is the administrator for Commuter Choice Program and will liaise with employees, WMATA, and Auxiliary Services.
The HR Coordinator will be assigned transactions, asked to assist with document creation, be a confidant for employees, and act as a first point of contact for most all HR actions. Reporting to the HR Division Director of the Greater Washington D.C. Area, this position plays a role in culture building, has regional scope, and is collaborative in nature.
This position is located in Alexandria, VA and is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with time in the office and one remote day each week.
Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent level education and experience, in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience with administrative support duties in a multifaceted fast-paced office environment performing tasks such as: calendaring, preparing documents, transactions, and scheduling.
Ability to read, interpret and apply established policies and procedures HR processes with knowledge of at least one of the following HR programs: recruitment and selection, job analysis, classification and compensation, and/or employee relations.
Demonstrated customer service skills.
Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and adaptable at learning systems.
Excellent time management skills and works independently.
Experience providing support in a higher education, governmental or non-profit context.
Knowledge and experience of Virginia Tech policies and procedures.
Current SHRM/PHR certification.
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
$60,000 - $67,000; commensurate with experience
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
