Position Summary:
El Centro at Virginia Tech is hiring a motivated and culturally informed Program Coordinator to support and enrich our student programs. Reporting to the Director of El Centro, the Program Coordinator will help plan, coordinate, and promote key events such as Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month, Latinx Symposium, community-building activities, educational workshops, and other cultural celebrations. This position focuses on advancing campus awareness, celebrating diversity, strengthening the community for Hispanic and Latinx students, leadership development, and student engagement. The Program Coordinator will also be a key campus partner who participates in committee work, annual events, training & development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Sociology, Latinx Studies, or a related field.
Proven cultural competency and understanding of Hispanic and Latinx identities, cultures, and experiences.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport and trust across diverse student populations, faculty, and the general public
- Demonstrated experience in planning, coordinating, and assessing programs and events.
- Skilled in project management, particularly in budget and scope management.
- Ability to handle sensitive student data with confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Experience in higher education, student affairs, or a similar environment.
- Proficiency in creating digital content such as flyers, social media graphics, and basic video editing
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
