Job Description

Virginia Tech’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions provides support to prospective first-year and transfer students and their families throughout the admissions cycle and is seeking an Assistant Director to join our team to support institutional goals. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director for Recruitment, this position will serve as an Assistant Director on the Diversity team, which oversees specialized programming for underrepresented and underserved prospective students and their families. This position will also work collaboratively with a recruitment team of about 20 directors and counselors, as well as the Travel and Events Manager and the Senior Associate Director of Operations. The Assistant Director will plan, implement, and oversee programs and projects to target, recruit, and enroll undergraduate students.

Key responsibilities include:

*Assist with planning and executing Campus Connection Day, Gateway, Hispanic College Institute, and Black College Institute programs as a member of the diversity team.
*Lead for planning and executing Fall Visitation and Sneak Peek programs
*Creating events, forms, and communications in Slate as it relates to on-campus and virtual events
*Managing communication plans associated with events, including providing information for print materials and webpage updates
*Serving as liaison among external stakeholders as it relates to the coordination of on-campus and virtual events, including college access organizations, high schools, and other groups coming to campus
*Managing recruitment travel and a specific geographic territory within the U.S. (including evening, weekend, and extended overnight travel - approximately three weeks in the fall and two weeks in the spring)
*Conducting recruitment presentations in high schools, community centers, and attending college fairs across the country
*Assisting with the coordination and execution of admissions and university affiliated events and programming (includes two weekends in the fall and two weekends in the spring, with additional programming during the week throughout the year)
*Creating reports as requested related to events and assessment of the events
*Serving as an ambassador for Virginia Tech to visiting prospective students and families
*Advising potential first-year and transfer students on admissions procedures, policies, and pathways
*Assisting with the review of applications for admission independently and as a committee member

Required Qualifications

*Bachelor’s degree with admissions or college counseling experience
*Experience working with diverse populations
*Ability to communicate and present information effectively to individuals and large groups
*Proficiency with Google Workspace or other similar software like Microsoft Office 365

Preferred Qualifications

*Advanced degree in related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
*Experience with Slate, Banner, Common App, and Scarlet’s Self-Reported Academic Record
*Experience advising student clubs or organizations
