The Visual Content Creator will conceptualize and develop storytelling and ideas and fulfill assignments in collaboration with the college’s communication team. Projects will coincide with written storytelling, college and campus events, social media and other digital platform needs. This position frequently collaborates with the social media manager and digital marketing manager as well as other members of the college’s communications team in engineering’s 13 departments and schools. Projects will include news style videos and live streaming for the college’s news and video platforms, shareable content for social media, and other captivating video storytelling for use on the University’s digital news platforms and the college’s bi-annual magazine, the Virginia Tech Engineer.
The Visual Content Creatorwill also provide visual coverage for important gatherings and events around the College including significant milestones (building openings, graduation, etc.). They will oversee and build the College’s YouTube presence, and assist the social media manager in the creation of reels or repurposing content to engage a variety of audiences on numerous social media platforms.
–Bachelor’s degree in video or film production, visual communications, journalism, new media, fine arts, or equivalent work and/or academic experience
–Demonstrated experience as a photographer, videographer, or digital content expert, who thrives in a dynamic, high-energy higher education environment.
–Portfolio that demonstrates deep knowledge of photography, videography and editing
–Experience working independently and as a team, multitasking, and working on multiple deadline-driven projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines.
–Fluency with using Canon or Nikon DSLRs to shoot images and video.
–Demonstrated experience producing written and visual content (video, photos, graphics) for social media and/or other digital platforms.
–Demonstrated experience executing and planning creative campaigns
–Familiarity and demonstrated use/experience with industry social media trends and best practices, especially YouTube.
–Knowledge of Virginia Tech or higher education setting
–Ability to juggle multiple deadlines, quick turnarounds, and work in a fast-paced environment
–Experience with video hosting platforms such as YouTube and Kaltura
–Experience collaborating with internal and external teams and stakeholders
–Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite or other video editing platforms such as DaVinci
–Marketing and branding experience
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
