Job Description

Reporting to the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management (VPEM), the Assistant Vice Provost for Professionally oriented Graduate Programs (PGPs) is responsible for advancing an innovative and strategic vision for PGP enrollment growth and success at Virginia Tech. This position provides transformative leadership to develop and implement university-wide enrollment strategies for PGPs, aligning with Virginia Tech’s institutional mission and workforce development goals, particularly in the Greater Washington, D.C. metro area.

The Assistant Vice Provost collaborates with academic leaders, including the vice president and executive director of the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus, deans, department heads, vice provosts and other senior leaders to advance PGP enrollment and high-quality professionally oriented graduate programs and credentials. This position fosters collaboration across the university to ensure strategic alignment and excellence in professionally-oriented graduate education.

A primary focus of this role is the initial development of a strategy for sustained growth in the Master of Engineering (MEng) degrees in Computer Science and Computer Engineering at the Innovation Campus. This initiative is critical to fulfilling the University’s obligation to the Commonwealth of Virginia and establishing a strong foundation for future enrollment growth.

Building on this initial focus, the assistant vice provost oversees a cross-institutional team with a focus on faculty support, program development, market analyses, enrollment management, recruitment, marketing, and admissions processing.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in higher education administration or related field, or equivalent experience in a relevant area.
• Significant supervisory experience in a leadership role.
• Expertise in developing and implementing, recruitment, marketing, and enrollment strategies for graduate or professionally oriented programs.
• Strong knowledge of CRM systems, admissions technology platforms, with experience leveraging data-driven decision-making and market analysis to support strategic enrollment goals.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent service to students, faculty, and other internal and external constituencies.
• Experience with professionally oriented graduate programs, graduate enrollment management or leading graduate programs at a college or school level.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in higher education administration or related field.
• Experience in professionally oriented graduate programs, including the development of alternative credentials such as micro-credentials and stackable certificates.
• Demonstrated knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems such as Ellucian Banner or similar student information systems (SIS), as well as enrollment platforms and financial aid strategies.
• Proven ability to lead cross-institutional teams to achieve strategic goals.
