Job Description

A position to provide support to University Scholarships and Financial Aid (USFA) office while Virginia Tech is moving its on-premises student solution to a cloud environment. Reporting to the Associate Director of System Operations, the Senior Systems Analyst position is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the Systems team and systemic functions of the USFA office. This position works collaboratively with campus colleagues including Admissions, Registrar, Bursar, and Academic Applications (Enterprise Systems). The position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of technology systems used to administer financial aid as well as overseeing the execution of operational processes for timely awarding, disbursement, tracking, and quality assurance reviews of financial aid programs.

The successful candidate will troubleshoot Banner system issues and assist with all system upgrades including scheduling, impact analysis, testing, and implementation in coordination with Academic Applications team. They will create formulas and processes for monitoring the university’s student financial aid systems and assist in executing the financial aid packaging strategy (budgeting, packaging, disbursement) through testing and simulating packaging runs.

This position will assist and support modifications to Banner identified through Banner E-communities and seamlessly integrate improvements with current system functionality to meet and maintain compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations. They will maintain a working knowledge of current issues and trends occurring in the Banner community and utilize those resources to research, identify, and propose process improvements and efficiencies for USFA. This position will also perform other duties, as assigned.

The Senior Systems Analyst will support the current Systems team in daily tasks including resolving Help desk tickets assigned to the Systems team. This position will also be responsible for assisting with ISIR loads for both the current aid year (2024-2025) and next aid year (2025-2026). The Senior Systems Analyst will also provide support to staff dealing with system and technology issues in Banner as well as any other information systems implemented by USFA. There will be some vacation blackout days during peak processing times to ensure all duties are fulfilled.

Required Qualifications

Successful candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree and have several years of experience writing SQL. They must have a strong technical background with experience in financial aid Systems, preferably Ellucian Banner. They must exhibit the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in a timely manner and possess attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive data.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using Banner Ellucian Financial Aid.
Experience with data reporting and analytics tools, especially in the context of higher education.
Masters degree or related experience.
