Virginia Tech is seeking an experienced space planning, management and design professional to promote the effective use and improvement of the university’s academic and research spaces. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Resource Management in the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Space will use existing and new information resources to inform campus planning and priority setting. The Assistant Vice Provost will participate in long range capital planning processes, building committees and campus master planning activities. This position will also oversee the assignment and management of approximately 240,000 gross square feet in nine buildings managed directly by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost. This position will solicit, review, recommend and oversee the completion of specific classroom and laboratory renovation projects funded by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost. In addition, the Assistant Vice Provost will advocate for effective utilization of academic spaces including classrooms, instructional and research laboratories, offices and common areas.
A bachelor's degree in architecture, interior design, facility/space management or a closely related field. Demonstrated ability to access and manipulate large datasets, conduct analyses and prepare summary reports. Demonstrated experience in project management from design through project completion and occupancy. Ability to summarize and clearly communicate information and recommendations in written and spoken forms appropriate for the senior management of the institution. Demonstrated experience managing personnel. Demonstrated experience working with space planning, design or management within a complex environment. Demonstrated experience with innovative planning and design of instructional environments. Demonstrated experience that shows an ability to work within a complex organization, build collaborative relationships and to advocate effectively within that larger environment.
An MBA or other master's degree in a related field.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
