The School of Plant and Environmental Sciences (SPES) in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Virginia Tech seeks an Environmental Chemist to fill an academic year (AY, 9-month) tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor rank. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program focused on the occurrence and fate, ecological or human health impact, and remediation of organic contaminants in soil and water resources. Teaching duties are expected to be closely integrated with research activities and will include at a minimum one upper-level undergraduate water quality class and a second course that may involve hybrid learning to be determined depending on departmental teaching needs. The successful applicant is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues in SPES, other units at Virginia Tech, and with additional university, regulatory, and industry partners both domestically and internationally. The successful applicant will be expected to serve on departmental, college, and university committees, and contribute to the overall institutional land grant mission. · Ph.D. in environmental chemistry, soil chemistry, water resources or related field of study by appointment start date
· Demonstrated experience relevant to development and use of analytical methods for the environmental monitoring and analysis of organic contaminants in complex environmental matrices.
· A record of scholarship and peer-reviewed publications related to environmental chemistry.
· Teaching experience at the undergraduate level in lecture or laboratory settings.
· Demonstrated strong commitment to fostering and supporting diverse, equitable, and inclusive research, extension, and university service efforts.
· Demonstrated potential to acquire research funding adequate to support an active research program, including supporting graduate students.
· Experience in mentoring undergraduate or graduate students.
