Serves as reporter providing news/information content for various programs/platforms from the Roanoke Valley. The successful candidate will be based in the WVTF broadcast center in Roanoke as the lead news producer and reporter for this key listening location in our network of stations in Virginia. This position requires experience in reporting, editing, and storytelling with emphasis on creating NPR-style pieces that reflect WVTF/RADIO IQ's high standards of journalism and production values as well as Public Radio's Core Values for News Programming. The successful candidate will be a part of and reside in the Roanoke Valley community with the ability to respond to local news assignments and events in a timely fashion.
Proven experience in reporting, interviewing, researching, and news content/text editing, as well as audio editing and producing in-depth stories and enterprise journalism.
Proficiency in writing, editing, and producing high-quality news content, including detailed, in-depth pieces.
Strong computer skills, along with interpersonal skills that facilitate collaboration and engagement with sources and the public.
A demonstrated capacity to develop original sources and story ideas independently, contributing to WVTF/Radio IQ’s mission to provide comprehensive news coverage and community connection in the Roanoke Valley and southwestern Virginia.
Ability to consistently produce high-caliber content under tight deadlines, aligning with editorial standards.
Significant experience in multimedia journalism, with proficiency in creating digital content that complements broadcast journalism.
Expertise in using broadcast and digital production tools, including audio editing software, content management systems, and social media platforms.
A deep understanding of and commitment to public radio values, demonstrated by a track record of producing content that resonates with diverse audiences.
Ability to engage and build relationships with the community to reflect a wide range of perspectives and voices in news coverage.
Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and adapting to evolving journalistic technologies and practices.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
