Job Description

YOU’LL BE…

• Reporting directly to the Associate Director for Finance in Student Affairs.

• Providing purchasing support to departments in Student Affairs such as maintaining contract files and data, soliciting information and pricing from vendors, engaging in purchasing transactions, and preparing Requests for Proposals (RFP).

• Practicing as the subject matter expert for the electronic timekeeping system for Dining Services; including maintaining the database, responding to inquiries, providing training, and generating reports.

• Assuming financial responsibilities to include generating financial reports, analyzing financial data, maintaining financial spreadsheets/databases, and assisting with fixed assets.

• Interacting and collaborating professionally and courteously with members of the Student Affairs’ Finance team, as well as, various members of the division of Student Affairs.

• Be offered a base compensation package between $50,000-$60,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

Required Qualifications

- Associate's Degree and/or equivalent training and experience in purchasing, finance, accounting, or related areas.

- Proven experience in performing purchasing transactions and activities; processing complex reports, spreadsheets, and purchase requisitions, automated finance and purchasing systems. 

- Proven experience independently discussing and guiding purchasing requirements and procurement methods with departmental personnel.

- Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook. 

- Proven proficiency in standard office communications and procedures, and excellent customer service with effective communication.

- Proven experience in training and presentation skills.

- Proven experience demonstrating efficiency, accuracy, attention to detail, and organization.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working in higher education.

- Experience working in database systems like Banner and HokieMart/EVa.

- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of ethical, public procurement.

- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, Virginia Tech and/or Commonwealth of Virginia procurement policies, procedures, practices, and methods.

- Knowledge of and/or experience using a corporate credit card program.

- Knowledge of accounting usage of a Chart of Accounts.

- Knowledge of and experience with electronic purchasing, electronic timekeeping systems, food service inventory and ordering, and/or cash register terminal control and reporting systems.
