Enterprise Systems supports the Virginia Tech community by developing, coordinating, and managing application software systems and enterprise data to provide critical information services for university constituents.
The Database and Application Administration team within Enterprise Systems is looking for a motivated Database Administrator, Senior with excellent problem-solving skills and a desire to learn new technologies. This position will be responsible for database administration, monitoring, technical user support, and participating in on-call rotation in a multitiered 24x7 environment.
The responsibilities of this position include:
● Implementing and maintaining databases under limited supervision.
● Providing guidance and coaching to lower-level professionals as well as leadership on database projects.
● Diagnosing, troubleshooting, consulting, and resolving problems with complex systems in an enterprise environment.
● Making recommendations regarding process improvements and solutions that are focused on the direction of tasks and duties.

• Master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, STEM, or a related field or bachelor's degree with equivalent work experience to a master's degree
• Significant experience administering relational databases in a high-availability environment.
• Significant experience with Windows operating system in a server environment.
• Experience utilizing best practices for database security, performance tuning and backup and recovery.
• Demonstrated experience with programming languages. Examples include Java, .NET
• Significant experience with PowerShell.
• Experience supporting end users with SQL performance and other database-related problems.
• Significant experience working with vendors to resolve technical issues.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Committed to supporting and promoting a diverse and inclusive campus community
• Certification in relational database administration.
• Advanced coursework or training in database management systems.
• Experience in a technical leadership role on projects.
• Experience supporting extract, transform and load (ETL) processes.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
