The School of Animal Sciences seeks to hire a financial specialist. This person will help lead a team to provide efficient and effective financial support to the School. This person will work closely with the farm unit managers and Director to establish and monitor farm budgets, provide analytical data, and ensure policy and procedures are being met. This position will be required to approve Hokie Mart, Fleet Services, Purchasing Cards, and travel transactions charged to farm funds. They will provide assistance with salary budget review and monitor salary savings for the School. They will also work with HR staff to initiate funding changes and labor redistributions for farm staff. Responsibilities will also include approving and reconciling Foundation accounts.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; Knowledge of advanced accounting principles and practices; Capacity to learn and flow University financial policies and procedures; Excellent organizational and time management skills; Effective verbal, written, and electronic communication skills; Capacity for dealing with confidential information and knowledge and skills to carry out responsibilities listed above.
Academic employment experience; Ability and willingness to understand and work effectively with various campus livestock units; Appreciation of diverse cultures and audiences; Operational and supervisory experience demonstrating exceptional administrative and logistical skills; Working knowledge of sponsored program funds, experience working with Banner, Hokie Mart, and Banner Time Entry; Experience with Chrome River and Labor Redistribution system.
