Job Description

The Controller’s Office is seeking an organized Accounting Associate I to join the General Accounting team. In this position, you will be responsible for assisting in the accurate and timely processing of accounting transactions in accordance with state and university policies and procedures. This role requires strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively with various university departments to resolve discrepancies.

Core Responsibilities:
• Review Accounting Transactions: Evaluate accounting transactions to ensure they are supported by appropriate documentation. If documentation is insufficient, initiate contact with relevant departments to obtain necessary details to justify the use of public funds.
• Discrepancy Resolution: Collaborate with university departments to resolve discrepancies in financial data or transactions.
• Data Entry: Accurately input data into the university’s accounting system in a timely manner.
• Document Management: Scan and index journal voucher documentation and system access forms to the university’s document management system.
• Local Fund Reconciliation: Assist with the reconciliation of Local Fund (Payroll Liability) accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Required Qualifications

• Familiarity with accounting practices.
• Proficient user of Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
• Ability to perform basic business math calculations and accurately process journal vouchers.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to provide customer service in a courteous manner and work effectively with diverse groups of people.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of actions processed.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to gather and analyze information and resolve difficulties quickly.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous office experience.
• Data entry experience.
