Reporting to the Grounds Operations Supervisor, the Grounds Equipment Operator position supports the grounds maintenance staff with mowing and landscaping duties and construction of projects on campus in operating various types of equipment and performing manual tasks as required. Operates equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, commercial type mowers, power tools and snow removal equipment. Also operates 2-ton dump trucks, long wheel base trucks and loaders. Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment. This position is designed emergency personnel position.
• Grounds experience in a commercial or institutional environment.
• Experience using commercial riding mowers and trucks.
• Working knowledge of heavy equipment and machinery and/or working knowledge of turf restoration equipment such as farm tractors with attachments and snow removal equipment.
• Must have valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Must have a Registered Tech Spray license.
• Must have the ability to safely operate commercial type mowers, tractors and power tools; equipment such as 2-ton dump trucks, long wheel base trucks and loaders; perform preventative maintenance on equipment; and perform required duties safely in a densely populated area.
• Must have the ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or more with assistance.
• Ability to climb and work from elevated work stations such as ladders and scaffolds; work for long periods of time standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending, and pushing/pulling.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively, work cooperatively within a team setting, and be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace.
• Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
• May be required to work additional hours/shifts to meet the needs of the department.
• Experience performing grounds maintenance in populated areas.
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
