We’re currently searching for an Access Specialist to join our Services for Students with Disabilities team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission. So, if you’re ready to serve students and be a part of a collaborative, please keep reading.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ROLE:
1) You’ll be joining the Services for Students with Disabilities team; a department centered on promoting students' academic success, personal growth, and life skill development by ensuring that students with disabilities receive equal access to Virginia Tech programs, activities, and services.
2) You’ll be reporting to the assistant director of access and accommodations, in a Regular twelve-month, 100% administrative professional appointment. 
3) You’ll be responsible for providing direct services to students and families seeking disability accommodations using an interactive process that identifies reasonable accommodations as well as auxiliary aids and services.The Access Specialist must demonstrate a commitment to equity, knowledge about disability services, and appreciation for human diversity.
4) You’ll have the chance to grow and take advantage of a developmental plan with opportunities to advance within the Department and the Division.
5) You’ll be offered a base compensation package between $50,000 - $52,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package which includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

We collaborate with campus partners to remove barriers and meet the individualized access needs of disabled students. SSD supports success through the promotion of student learning and the development of advocacy skills.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent amount of experience working in disability services in higher education.
• Experience communicating effectively with multiple stakeholders.
• Experience working in the field of disability services, rehabilitation services, social work, higher education, etc.
• Strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple requests and competing deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience providing individual and/or small group instruction to students.
• Demonstrated ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience working with student individually or as a group to learn new skills.
• Experience translating legal requirements into actionable steps for both experts and non-experts.
