Job Description

The Agricultural Specialist and Manager supervises daily activities at the Northern Piedmont Research Station located in Orange, Virginia for the purpose of conducting quality agricultural research. Responsibilities include standard maintenance and operation of farm machinery, mowers, and handheld mechanical devices. The station manager will perform and record maintenance on equipment such as tractors, mowers, planters, and specialized equipment. Manager will keep records, inventory, and safety protocols for agrichemicals, assist in establishing research trials, plot layout and preparation, and applying experimental treatments. The manager will assist in data collection and entry as needed and is expected to interact and cooperate with faculty, staff, students, industry, and extension personnel to facilitate quality research and educational projects and programs. Duties also include management of operational budget for the station, and maintaining buildings and grounds.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Animal Science or related discipline or training and experience equivalent to bachelor's degree. Experience in row crop production systems and forages, operating and maintaining farm equipment, a Virginia pesticide applicatory license (3a, 3b, and 10) or ability to obtain within one year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with agronomic research and data management.
