Job Description

Reporting to Director of Recruitment, this position serves as one of a team of assistant directors and counselors who plan, implement and administer programs and initiatives designed to target, recruit, and enroll students in undergraduate degree programs.
Depending on experience and qualifications, this role will join the office as Senior Assistant Director or Associate Director. The Senior Assistant / Associate Director for Transfer Initiatives plays a critical role within the Office of Undergraduate Admissions overseeing transfer student recruitment, applications, and yield efforts while maintaining a first-year in-state territory and reviewing assigned first-year applications.

Key responsibilities include:

*Develop and implement the domestic transfer recruitment plan with the Director of Recruitment.
*Conduct transfer data collection and analysis, query management, and data reporting.
*Provide input to application components including the Common App, Scarlet CS, and other vendors.
*Lead and advise the Transfer Team in the review of approximately 5,000 transfer applications for spring, summer, and fall admission.
*Schedule and manage appointments for Hokie Corner admission advising.
*Serve as direct supervisor to one current Admissions Counselor
*Review transfer and first-year applications independently and as a member of the admissions committee.
*Serve as one of a team of about 20 counselors and directors throughout the recruitment and review process.
*Plan and present the Transfer Open Houses and other transfer-specific events for recruitment and yield purposes.
*Serve as Director of the Day (DOD) or Backup DOD when assigned each month.
*Work directly with college recruiters as needed to assess transfer requirements by major.
*Serve as a member of senior staff, participating in senior staff meetings and other required meetings.

Required Qualifications

*Bachelor’s degree with multiple years of admissions experience or in a related field like academic advising, transfer credit articulation, or college counseling at a high school or community college
*Demonstrated organizational skills to accommodate multiple priorities
*Exemplary interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with individuals and large groups, internal and external to the institution
*Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office or comparable software.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference for advanced degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; candidates with previous experience working directly with transfer students and their specific needs; experience with Slate, Banner, Common App, and Scarlet CS Self-Reported Academic Record

The rank of the position will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
