This Postal Specialist (Flex) is primarily assigned to the Owens Mailroom on campus and is intended to work as needed at all mail service locations and work requirements to meet department needs. The Owens and GLC facilities on campus are focused on customer service and distribution related tasks. Duties at the off-campus processing facility may include unloading mail and packages from trucks, assigning them to recipients, distribution to the on-campus student lockers and locations, delivery to departments on campus, and our Roanoke locations

The incumbent also performs other duties as requested; takes initiative to support a healthy work environment; strives to fulfill the terms in the Standards of Business Conduct; exemplifies the Virginia Tech Principles of Community; and supports the university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).

Required Qualifications

Experience
• Previous experience communicating with or working with the public

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• A valid driver's license with no restrictions
• The ability to maintain accurate digital records
• Willingness to work in close proximity to others
• The ability to work as a team member; comprehend and follow instructions; adhere to a schedule
• Ability to safely operate a delivery vehicle
• Able to: safely move and handle up to 70 lbs.; sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb stairs and perform repetitive movements of reaching, lifting, sorting, and carrying mail packages and boxes for extended periods; and work daily in a variety of weather conditions.


Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with record keeping; use of a personal computer and computerized mail management systems; sorting, correcting, and forwarding mail
• Knowledge of USPS processes and procedures
• Experience as a delivery driver
