Job Description

Research Assistant Professor position under the supervision of Dr. Amy Marshall in the Relationships and Stress Laboratory, Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech. The key aim of our research is to understand how stress, trauma exposure, and PTSD symptoms influence context-dependent aggressive behavior within families. We focus on engagement in intimate partner violence, child maltreatment, and sibling aggression, with consideration of intervening social-cognitive interpersonal mechanisms. We have additional lines of research considering sex and gender differences in how stress and trauma impact broader family and interpersonal processes, the impact of family violence on children, and developmental processes that change if and how trauma exposure impacts social behavior.

The focus of this position will include publishing data from a recently completed NIH-funded study of the context and behaviors within incidents of family aggression and violence, and assisting with grant writing activities focused on sibling violence and couple-based treatment of PTSD. The Research Assistant Professor will also supervise and train affiliated graduate students in advanced statistical analyses, and consult in activities surrounding study design and data collection. Opportunities exist for career and scientific development. Start date is negotiable, with August 2025 preferred. The position is for a minimum of one year, with potential for extension based on available funding.
